The Spirit of Warranty: Car Warranty Explained

At Coopers of Hampshire, all vehicles, unless otherwise stated, include a minimum no-quibble 3 month warranty provided through us or an established warranty company. In many cases, customers have the option of extending their warranty up to 3 years at discounted rates not available on the retail market or direct with the warranty company, so it is important to consider this when purchasing your vehicle.

What levels of cover are available?

Platinum - Top-level cover. Our most comprehensive warranty covering all electrical and mechanical components not on the exclusions list, with an individual claim limit up to £5,000 and enhanced claim limits for listed items. Optional upgrade on most vehicles. We recommend all buyers consider this warranty option, especially on prestige vehicles or convertibles.

Prestige - Top-level dealer-provided cover. Our most comprehensive warranty covering all electrical and mechanical components not on the exclusions list, plus additional benefits and discretionary wear and tear cover, with an individual claim limit of up to £1,500 retail. We recommend buyers wanting the flexibility of a nationwide warranty select Platinum coverage.

Gold Plus - Comprehensive cover, with an individual claim limit of £2,000-£2,500. Included as standard with vehicles priced over £5,000 and covers listed components. Optional upgrade on most other vehicles, including those priced below

Gold - The same cover as Gold Plus, with an individual claim limit of £1,000. Included as standard with most vehicles priced £4,000 to £5,000

Silver - A good level of cover with £500 claim limit. Included with selected vehicles. This cover can be extended up to 2 years or upgraded to optional Gold, Gold Plus or Platinum cover

Can I go to any garage?

Yes you can. Our Silver, Gold and Platinum products are all underwritten by national warranty providers, and you may select a garage of your choice or from their trusted garage networks.

What does a warranty cover me for?

The buyer is responsible for taxing and insuring your vehicle, and ensuring it has a valid MOT. In accordance with Warranty requirements, you are also responsible for ensuring the vehicle is maintained according to manufacturer recommendations, is kept in a good state of repair, and is serviced as required at a VAT registered garage. Not doing so may invalidate any warranty.

A warranty is really important, because it is your safety net against premature failure of vehicle components. We encourage all buyers to consider which warranty best meets their needs and requirements, and we advise all buyers to consider the Platinum standard level of cover, as it is our most comprehensive. Please see our Warranty page for more information. A warranty isn't a replacement for vehicle maintenance that would otherwise be reasonably expected. The Motor Ombudsman defines the differences between what to expect to be covered and maintenance the buyer of a used vehicle will be responsible for.

Our Vehicles

The level of cover included as standard varies by vehicle. The warranty type, length and level of cover included with a vehicle can be found near the top of the page for the vehicle you are looking at. Buyers can use the dropdown box to extend the term or coverage level to up to 3 years. The price will automatically update to reflect any options selected. Buyers are responsible for ensuring the warranty cover with their vehicle meets their needs and requirements, and the dealer shall carry no liability for incorrect choice or insufficient coverage. Full information about the comprehensive warranty products on our vehicles, including warranty terms can be found on our Warranty page.

All vehicles, unless otherwise stated, include a minimum no-quibble 3 month warranty. In certain cases, due to vehicle age and/or mileage, warranty may not be available, or will be reduced; the vehicle description will provide you full details of the type of warranty included with that specific vehicle. In many cases, customers have the option of extending their warranty at discounted rates.
